Definitely a one of a kind as its not a 1975, not an Argosy and not a 26ft....

I need to write more about this. Rick, I just uploaded some more pictures. Dan

Martin, it’s a 1975 Airstream Argosy 26ft. When we found it in a field, it took me the afternoon to figure out what the little beast was. Given was I newbie to Airstreams, I was proud of myself. Now that I posted some new pics, look at an Airstream 250 and an Argosy 26ft and figure out what the owner did years ago. We had the same colors repainted, gutted, and had it rebuilt. Please look again and respond. I’d feel better if you acknowledged this is a one of kind.

1975 Argosy has a plastic grille, and the cut out in the fenders is a different size to the later alloy grille - they cannot be interchanged. The Argosy also does not have an alloy roof section over the cab. It appears the end cap is Argosy and the dash is from a 1975. Its a real 'bitsa' and the only thing that can prove one way or another is by the VIN number. All Argosy have the VIN stamped on the radiator support behind the front access panel, please share if you want to prove its a 1975 Argosy.

Martin, thanks for the quick response. The way I figured it out was the arrangement of windows, and I then went back and measured it with the friend that showed it to us. Sure enough, it was 26ft. You're correct, much was changed. Here's the VIN. VIN: CPL375V304838 Chevrolet Forward Control V-8 454 Cu In Series 3 = 1 Ton 7 Body Style, Forward Control Recreation Vehicle Chassis 5 Model Year 1975 V Assembly Plant GM Truck 304838 Sequential Number

This is the GMC VIN for the chassis not the Airstream issued VIN for the coach. The Airstream VIN will tell you what Airstream built onto that chassis.

Martin, do you know where I would find that VIN? I found the VIN I shared inside the cabinets before we gutted everything, and I never saw any other VIN besides that one.

If you open the front access panel (front hood) you will see the top of the radiator. either side of the radiator are steel uprights, and there will be a plate screwed to one of those.

This is from the 1975 owners manual, you can see the Airstream VIN plate on the right. In this case it is M26T5V5069. This means m(otorhome), 26(ft), twin bed, (197)5, (made in) Versailles and 5069 is the incremental number for that year.

All Argosy have these plates. Argosy will also have a GMC VIN plate mounted on the bulkhead slightly behind the Airstream VIN.

I apologize for the delay. It's in storage, and I hope to soon have one of the owners of the storage facility take a pic of the VIN. I passed along your instructions. Thank you. Dan
