There is nothing ordinary about Tiffany Blue, the 1971 Airstream Sovereign. When we bought her, we knew that gutting her and starting over was not an option. There are way too many gutted Airstreams out there that have been stripped down to their bones and are irreversibly void of character. Our goal was, as much as possible, to preserve the genius of the Airstream Engineer design, while bringing out the best of the mid century modern interior design, and update it with new appliances.

After years of weekend warrior work and professional repairs, she is 31 feet of charm, personality and fun, ready for glamping or life as an Airbnb. A previous owner had torn out the sofa, table, RV toilet and the lower back bathroom wall. So, we had to reimagine and recreate those things. We didn t reimagine the toilet, though we did have to pull out and replace the single family home plumbing with pex and put in a new RV toilet. We removed the old, worn countertop and replaced it so that it would match the new Tiffany teal Blue color scheme. We also had to remove the oven since it didn t work and parts are no longer available. We remade that space into a shelving area for plates and glasses right next to the kitchen counter. All of the original cabinetry remains, which is one of the things I love about this trailer. There is SO MUCH storage that takes advantage of those wonderful Airstream curves! This unit is easily ready to live in, hit the road in, or park in your backyard as a short term rental or mother in law space.

Here is the list of other items we replaced: Dometic dual power refrigerator, Dometic microwave/convection oven, hot water heater, Zip Dee awning, shower head, shower track, plumbing, overhead and wall lighting fixtures, furnace, mattresses, rebuilt center pull out bed, drapes, propane tank fitting, towing cable, battery, bumper, screens, window levers, backsplash and floors.

We DIDN T replace cabinets, sinks, range, louvered doors, center bed, doors, windows, bathtub, interior walls, air conditioner, and all of the wonderful hooks, odd corners and wonderful Airstream curves that make this trailer, and the few ungutted Airstreams left, so unique. So, in short, we took out what was gross, broken, or unfixable. We kept or renovated the unique pieces that make her who she is. She is nice and shiny from being buffed, but doesn t have a mirror finish, which we heard from other owners can catch surrounding things on fire. ! There is one dent in the rear, I mean a beauty mark in the rear. wink, wink.

As an interior designer, I decided on teal and touches of yellow for a fun color scheme with bits of silver, chrome and crystal for shine and glam. I brought in lots of vintage and reproduction items that fit the mid mod design, from a vintage teal thermos set and serving bowl, to a vintage Dazey Ice crusher and juicer, to a reproduction clock and wall art to a very cute vintage straw hat and gloves. The drapes were reconstructed by hand sewing the original tabs to new teal and white fabric so that the original tracks could be used.

The kitchen is fully stocked down to spices, dishes, pots utensils, and towels. There are two sleeping/sitting areas, one for two adults and the center bed for two kids or one adult. The dining area seats four. The bathroom with a nice sized shower and tub is in the back. We installed some cool glass tile and a metal wall for some modern detail and to replace the wall. Just pack your clothes and food and you re down the road. You re probably thinking then, If she s so great, then why are you selling? Truth be told, we bought the trailer as a flip, fell in love as we were working on her, then realized she s just too big for two people. And we sold the truck that could tow it. Wha, wha waaa. So, our loss is your gain. We just want to see her back on the road or being loved as much as she deserves. Tiffany s ready and waiting for you!
