This beautiful '65 Overlander International was completely gutted and renovated over the course of a year after spending many years of her life rotting away in a barn. This is a truly one-of-a-kind Airstream that we lovingly rebuilt from the frame up to feel more like a home than a travel trailer, but with all the functionality to travel and even camp off the grid indefinitely!
We’re only selling her (and it breaks our hearts, trust us!) because we want a smaller, motorized RV that will fit in some tighter spots in both backcountry and urban areas. We're willing to make a deal if anyone is interested in buying the Jeep tow vehicle too as a package.
We've lived and worked full-time in this trailer for a year now, covering 35 states and nearly 15,000 miles. She’s been everywhere imaginable, from RV parks, to friends’ driveways, to dispersed camping in the National Forests. This unique cozy trailer would be perfect for anyone who loves vintage Airstreams and wants one that's ready to go right away without the time and investment of undergoing a renovation. She's perfect for the full-time traveler like us, weekend or vacation camping, as a mobile or home office, a stationary guesthouse or a vacation home.
SPECS:
26' tongue to bumper. 22' interior length, 7' wide. 4500 lbs fully loaded (we haven't done a weighing while empty because we've lived in it since the day if was roadworthy again). Ours is much lighter than newer Airstreams of similar length - we tow with a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee rated at 7500 lbs with no problems.
Optimized for shore power, off-grid living, or both – four 6V golf cart batteries, four 12V outlets, 8 110V outlets, 600w pure sine wave inverter, 100w GoPower rooftop flexible solar panel with charge controller. There's room to add a few more panels and get up to 400 or more watts - new panels just plug into the existing system!
Completely rewired with an over-engineered electrical system, extra 12V wiring in walls and ceiling for future use
LED lighting throughout, with the exception of 4 halogen reading lights that can be changed to LED if desired
Pioneer car stereo with Bluetooth, USB and iPod hookup, high-quality car stereo speakers in front and rear
No-crank, powered Jack HD TV antenna with ceiling-mounted adjustment knob
Wi-Fi Ranger boosting antenna on telescoping pole with router
Two 30 lb propane tanks on tongue with auto switch-over regulator (can be polished if desired)
Highly efficient PrecisionTemp TwinTemp Jr. tankless propane water heater + hydronic heat furnace, with three heat exchangers and cold weather freeze protection. Endless hot water with full water pressure and very little propane usage.
Low-profile Coleman Mach-8 13,500 BTU air conditioner with integrated electric heat strip for those chilly nights when you shore power and don't want to use propane
Two-burner SMEV propane cooktop with glass cover
Under-mount granite composite kitchen sink with IKEA pull-down spray faucet
Stainless vessel sink in bathroom with IKEA contemporary faucet
Bathtub with molded in seat/step, aluminum shower surround, and detachable handheld shower sprayer - perfect for bathing kids or pets. Shower head is mounted on an interior wall as high as possible so taller people can even use this shower comfortably.
Real wood interior feels cozy and residential, like a cabin – original '65 mahogany cabinet fronts and upper cabinets, butcher block countertops, plastic end caps were replaced with two-tone wood front and rear. It doesn't feel "cheap" inside like many newer trailers and RVs. No particle board or laminates.
All new plumbing (PEX) throughout, with trapless HEPVO one-way valves
Marine-grade chrome water and power inlets
New 28 gallon fresh water tank with Shur-flo Revolution water pump
New 28 gallon gray water tank with Valterra gray tank valve and easy garden hose attachment
Nature's Head composting toilet with 12V exhaust fan that vents below the trailer– two liquids containers for easy dumping, and low-maintenance solids compartment that requires emptying monthly to yearly, depending on usage. No more stinky slinky, tank treatments, and rubber gloves! Just empty the gray tank with a garden hose.
Isotherm Cruise Elegance high-efficiency marine 12V refrigerator with small freezer
Platform bed with full-size, lightweight Sleep Number bed – hinged top with lots of storage beneath
Cork tile flooring – wall to wall. Floor needs some tiles replaced from full-time use and pets' nails, but we’re waiting to see if the new owner would prefer to lay another type of flooring instead. Cork even adds extra insulation if a new floor is placed on top.
Two layers of Prodex reflective insulation (facing both directions) in walls keeps temperature more consistent inside
Easy-access wall thermostats for furnace and air conditioner/heat strip, tank monitor panel, solar charge controller, fuse and breaker box.
Sleeps four comfortably between full-size bed and custom-built front sofa gaucho, upholstered with high quality dense foam in indoor/outdoor fabric covers that are removable for cleaning.
Original vinyl-coated aluminum walls thoroughly cleaned, sanded, refinished with 2 coats KILZ primer, two coats light gray bathroom easy-clean paint.
Center electrical panel runs the length of trailer with recessed, adjustable LED directional lights mounted in wood
Two new Fantastic Fans with automatic rain sensors and thermostats
New residential Maxim bronzed skylight – hailproof
Custom folding wood table fits into end table next to sofa, and turns living room into dinette that seats 4
Exterior:
Clearcoat removed with with aircraft stripper and trailer polished twice with Nuvite. Could use another light polishing to remove oxidation and minor scratches after a year of being outdoors, but looks great either way. Roof was not polished.
All window glass and screens replaced - new tinted tempered auto glass. This trailer has flat windows instead of curved, so glass is easily and cheaply replaced if broken.
Custom-made black fiberglass tail light surrounds with upgraded, safer LED porch, tail, reverse and running lights all around
Anderson hitch and weight distribution system included - works with any vehicle, easy to set up, can make tight turns and back up without detaching it, unlike solid weight distribution bars
Aluminum late-model Airstream rims and Goodyear tires all around with matching spare mounted under the back bumper
What does she need?
New floating flooring laid on top of existing, or a few cork tiles replaced (we can supply the tiles) - ~$300
A few window cranks need replaced from age/use/wind stripping the gears
Another light polishing if desired
Some belly pan repairs and additional insulation if used in a cold climate (had to piece together the old one due to belly damage from a previous owner and the aluminum is not in the best of shape due to age - could be replaced with new full-length aluminum sheets by an RV repair shop or Airstream restorer)
The tank monitors are giving us false readings currently, may need sensors re-mounted and calibrated (not hard - they're all mounted with foil tape on the outside of the tanks)

Currently in Sioux City, Iowa, but willing to deliver to a serious buyer. Will negotiate on price and throw in more extras if we can sell the Jeep too as a package deal.

1965 Airstream Overlander 26 - Iowa
Hello Kristin! My boyfriend and I are very interested in your Airstream. We live in Brooklyn NY and we just made an accepted offer on a beautiful piece of land in the Catskills. We've been looking at buying an Airstream to have as a temporary vacation home up there. We came across yours and wow, you guys did SUCH an amazing job with it! It really looks like it would be perfect for us. The problem is, we won't have the funds to purchase it until my boyfriend's condo sells in September or October of this year. Since that's a bit of time from now, I just wanted you to reach out and let you know of our interest. And if it is still available in a month or two we would love to come out and take a look at it, wherever you guys may be at that point.
If you'd like to discuss further you can email me at suzbennett1@gmail.com or by cell, 917-202-9594.
best,
Suzanne
