2005 AIRSTREAM SPRINTER WESTFALIA
This is the ultimate camper van! 50 years of Westfalia innovation is expertly integrated into the efficient Mercedes Sprinter diesel van. Airstream imported just 250 of them, for just one year, in 2005. The van, and its Westfalia conversion, were built in Germany, where it's known as the Westfalia James Cook.

The Sprinter van is powered by the venerable 2.7L Mercedes 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine, and it gets a predictable 22 miles per gallon on the highway. It has a 5-speed automatic transmission, disc brakes on all 4 wheels, ABS anti-lock brakes, anti-skid control, power steering, power door locks with keyless entry, power windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and the optional engine monitoring computer that tells you when the next oil change is due. Oil change intervals are up to 10,000 miles. There's also a diesel-fired hydronic heater that pre-heats the engine's coolant for cold-weather starting.

The Westfalia camping conversion has so many features, I will probably miss a few in the following list:

Sleeps 4 in two double-size beds, one on the lower level and one in the "loft."
Front captain's chairs, fully adjustable, with armrests, that rotate to face the living space.

In addition to all that standard equipment, this particular van (#155 of 250) has had numerous upgrades done, by the present and previous owners. They include:
Upgraded rear suspension with extra rear spring leaves.
Koni heavy-duty shock absorbers.
Oversized rear swaybar, upgraded swaybar brackets.
Spare tire carrier on rear door with full-size spare.
Turbocharger resonator has been replaced with an aluminum unit.
Updated stereo system with Rockford speakers and new Pioneer bluetooth head unit.

Original air conditioner replaced with Dometic unit.

This "Westy" is in very good, clean condition, with only 65,000 miles. The body is straight and rust-free. The interior is very clean, with very little wear showing. All the systems work. Maintenance is up to date, with service records that include recent laboratory fluid analysis. Complete set of operation, service and repair manuals. Brakes were recently overhauled, with new rotors. Michelin LTX-MS2 tires are brand new. Serpentine belt and all idlers and tensioners have been recently replaced.

Asking price for this van is $55,000. Recent sales have been between $45K and $60K, depending on condition and mileage. This example is well above average. These vans sold new in 2005 for almost $90K, and new similar vans from Airstream, Roadtrek and Pleasureway are selling for around $120K today.
