Nice 1977 Argosy, “the painted Airstream”, unmolested and 98% complete and original, a good restoration candidate. This trailer is 26 feet long, with a rear bath, two twin beds, and a couch that converts to a queen bed.

All original and complete, only missing the refrigerator and the tambour door under the sink. All the glass is good, the original KT door lock is good with keys, all exterior compartment doors function and have keys as well. Includes the original CareFree awning, Argosy center caps on the wheels, and the original axles. There is a dent on the rear endcap and some wrinkling on the rear street side of the body, these should be fairly straightforward repairs (wrinkling is mild enough that body filler could be considered if the intention is to keep this a painted trailer). End caps have had some retouching with spray paint, but look good.

I purchased this last fall with the intention of restoring it, but have another project I want to put my time and energy into instead. I’ve checked a few things and made some minor repairs. There is some floor rot by the door and under the refrigerator compartment – the original refrigerator vent cap had holes in it and let water in leading to the floor rot. I’ve replaced the vent cap with a new aluminum version. There also appeared to be a failure in the gasket for the vent stack, I have replaced that as well.

I put in a battery to check the 12v system, all lights appear to be working with the exception of the street-side reading lamp (although a number of the original incandescent bulbs are burned out, each fixture had at least one working bulb) and the outside porch light, although that may be a bad bulb. Charger hums when plugged into shore power, but didn’t see a bump in battery voltage, may need some attention (it is 40 year old technology, replacing with a modern multi-stage charger is probably a good idea no matter what)

I plugged it into shore power, all the 110V outlets work and the air conditioner runs (previous owner told me it does not cool, however, and may need a recharge). A/C needs a knob, I turned it on with pliers.

Checked the water system briefly, the fresh water tank holds water, the water pump works, but there is a split in the original copper line from the tank to the water heater area so I wasn’t able to do further checking. Replacing the bad section with something should be straightforward, the split is in the open area in the cabinet next to the refrigerator. Was not able to check the downline faucets because of the pipe failure.

Awning works, but needs some TLC. The thumb screws that secure the arms in an extended position are damaged, I secured them for the photos with vice-grips. The attachment points at the bottom of the trailer are loose, and the braces that hold the arms out from the trailer aren’t attached. I have them both, they need to be reattached, and one needs some work on one end.

Excellent potential to use as-is with a little renovation (new tires would be a must, and there is floor rot by the door and at the very rear of the trailer and some rust on the outriggers in the wheel wells and the holding tank framework) or put more time and effort in and get her back to top shape.

I will be happy to answer questions or provide more detailed pictures to those interested. Clear Wisconsin title in my name.
