1974 Airstream Ambassador 29 - Idaho

This airstream is awesome. Since we purchased it from the deceased owner’s daughter, lying abandoned out on the prarie in North Idaho where it was only used as a man cave for him for the past 15 years, we have done the following to it while also using it regularly over the last 8 years:

-stripped out the carpet and other flooring, replaced and repaired all subfloor that was water damaged.
-installed new bamboo flooring throughout.
-replaced all 95% of copper piping with PEX tubing.
-replaced/upgraded all faucets.
-repaired mechanicals of refrigerator for both gas and electric function, cleaned and repainted interior.
-repaired furnace to working order.
-repaired AC and repainted plastic cover black.
-repaired hot water heater.
-repaired cooktop electric vent.
-replaced old univolt charger with newer charging system utilizing the existing fuse block.
-stripped clear coat, resealed all seams and windows, cut and buffed exterior.
-added a front window, tinted protector.
-sourced missing and broken knobs, window stays, gas oven and other missing or broken parts.
-new tires as of 2017.
-re-wired main electrical plug in to be the newest style.
-tinted all the windows and removed the sky-light window’s 40 yr old degraded factory tinting.
-fixed the electric brakes to work.
-fixed the door lock to function and work.
-sourced and or re-keyed all compartments and doors.
-sourced original large aluminum propane tanks. (one still needs to be polished up – will provide everything you need to do this – buffing wheels, compound blocks, buffer)
-replaced all lights inside and out with LED bulbs.
-built a new front u-shaped couch with storage and table that drops making large bed.
-replaced holding tanks and rebuilt metal framing that holds them. New aluminum under-belly for rear.
-new black trim molding installed on exterior.
-sourced and replaced awnings to original material on both sides. Have the parts for a rear awning waiting to be installed that matches.
-sourced and replaced parts and pieces for the twin bed section including rollup doors above and blow beds, original plastic slide out trays and overhead lights.
-custom made curtains for the front wrap around window and the mid-bed section.
-custom ordered aluminum mini blinds for the front side windows.
-replaced two exterior corner body panels (tree branch fell on it). Done at Airstream of Spokane.

All and all this airstream looks great and everything works as it should! We love it and have taken it all over the NW in the past few years in all seasons.

There’s still more that could be done like a complete rebuilding of the kitchen cabinets / counters, etc. Maybe a cool new bathroom… But alas, I think we’re done and it’s time for someone else to take this Awesome airstream on it’s next adventures…

Trailer is currently stored inside a large shop in North Idaho. Additional photos or video can be take and sent upon request.

This thing will just keep going up in value!
