1961 Airstream Bambi for sale. One owner with all the original documentation. The exterior is in exceptional condition. We're done a full restoration on everything else. This is a vintage trailer, meticulously restored, and ready to go another 50+ years. Of all the Airstream vintage models, the Bambis seem to be the most sought after and collectable.

Airstream made the Bambi series just four years from 1961 to 1964. Approximately 200 were made each year. The became an instant success because of their size, tongue weight of just 200 lbs, and total weight of just 1875 lbs. Most of the advertisements from Airstream showed the being towed by cars and station wagons! When they get hooked to a 3/4 ton truck you hardly know they are there. You will also appreciate the Bambi late at night when you pull up to the campsite. At just 16' length, you'll have this trailer set up in a jiffy. Those 25+ foot trailers are nice, but trailer life gets more complicated when they get longer.

The 1961 Airstream Bambi is very easy to haul with a weight of just 1875 lbs and a tongue weight of just 200 lbs. You don't need a monster engine to haul them. Plus you save a few bucks on gas versus heavier trailers. We replaced the axle with a new torsion axle which is another refinement that makes a nice difference when you hauling. New electric brakes help it stop quickly too. New wheel rims and tires complete the running gear. Up front we replaced the old tow hitch, added new safety chains, and a new jack and wheel. Ready for another 50+ years.

The interior of the trailer was in great condition. We were able to refinish the original cabinets to near new condition. All the windows work fine. We replaced gaskets on all the windows and built new screens. The entire interior was sanded, then painted in an eggshell white, which brightens things up nicely. The original pink formica countertops were kept and they just SHOUT OUT 1961! The floors were resurfaced with marmoleum tiles done in classic '60s checkerboard pattern. The interior looks totally original.

We had new dense foam cushions and fabrics added for the couches. New curtains were made, as well as drapes for the shower and the closet areas. They look great.

We did upgrade the mechanical systems. All the copper plumbing was ripped out and replaced with plastic pex tubing. Pex tubing lasts longer and is less likely to rupture in cold weather. The original aluminum water tank was replaced with a new plastic tank. That's a huge improvement. The hot water heater and tank was replaced with a modern hot water heater. It's much more efficient, takes up less space, and reduces weight.

The electrical system went through several upgrades as well. First we replaced the trailer hookup with a new 7 prong system. Then we added a new power converter and charger. It allows you to run off a a 110 volt hookup, or the 9 volt system. The truck engine charges the new battery while you drive. When you get to your campsite, you can either hookup to a 110 volt, or run on the 9 volt system for the lights. If your going to be camping away from a 110 volt source, one of those portable power generators come in real handy.

The propane systems also got upgrades. Two new propane tanks, along with a new regulator, and propane tank rack were added. Then we replaced all the copper propane lines from the tanks back to the stove and hot water heater.
